Bashneft Increases Volume of Associated Petroleum Gas Utilisation

30 December 2020

Up to 750,000 cubic metres of associated petroleum gas per year will be brought into the production cycle from the Metelinskoye oil field in Duvansky District of the Republic of Bashkortostan.

This has been achieved by upgrading the Meteli gas-fired power plant, carried out by specialists from Bashneft (an enterprise of Rosneft Oil Company).

The Meteli gas-fired power plant is the biggest power-generating asset of Bashneft in Bashkortostan.

APG utilisation at the enterprise’s facilities has increased 4.5 times following the implementation of the gas programme. This is part of Bashneft’s long-term environmental protection initiatives, which have been implemented since 2013. To date, the APG utilisation rate in the Republic of Bashkortostan has reached 95.1%, and 99% in the Arlanskaya group of fields.

Currently, Bashneft supplies 17% of the APG produced in Bashkortostan as feedstock for the petrochemical industry.

The upgrade of the Meteli gas-fired power plant completely replaced the former cooling units with more modern and efficient ones, thus increasing the plant’s capacity to generate electricity and improve the utilisation of the APG used as a fuel component at the site.

In addition to its positive environmental impact, the modernisation of the plant has boosted the maximum power output of each of the power plant’s six units from 1.3MW to 1.65MW. The available capacity has increased by almost 21%. The enhanced capacity of the power plant provides 199.2 MWh of power per day for production purposes and reduces the need to buy electricity from third-party suppliers.

Note for Editors:
